Being safe at work can be a matter of life and death for some employees. Working with dangerous chemicals, fighting fires, and arresting criminals all offer serious hazards. Some jobs offer an extreme environment, while most others are fairly safe. Even in a safe office job there are things that we all can do to keep safe and prevent injury. An example would be non slip stair treads that keep you from slipping when using the stairs.
Non skid stair treads are just one example. There are many other things that you can do or that your employer can do to keep workers safe.
-Placing door mats at all entrances can allow workers and visitors to dry their feet. Water can easily be tracked in by anyone entering the workplace. This can cause slipping hazards if the water is not removed or prevented.
-Adding non slip stair treads combined with stair nosing can help prevent workers from slipping while using the stairs. Just imagine climbing traction less stairs with wet shoes. An accident is bound to happen in this situation. Adding necessary traction is vital to keep workers safe when stairs are used.
-Always follow posted directions. Many companies are required by law to post safety information in the workplace. Always take the time to review any materials or literature that can help keep you safe.
Regardless of where you work, there are things that you can do to prevent common injuries. It may be a good idea to speak with human resources regarding safety in the workplace if you ever have any concerns.
